I live in “The United Hyperactive States of America.” I myself am distractible, therefore impulsive, and readily bored.This is so because I have been engaged in more than one activity, physical or mental, all my life. Fortunately, I was never a victim of a psychologist or a psychiatrist who would have exulted in labeling me with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). More fortunately, my ADHD did not cause anxiety or depression and so it never interfered with my work in surgery, then in microscopy, then in clinical pathology, then in immunology, then in clinical ecology, then in nutritional medicine, then in energy healing, and finally in integrative healing. I am the solo author of all twelve volumes of my textbook “The Principles and Practice of Integrative Medicine.” I am certain that I could not have done all this work without being distractible, impulsive, and readily bored. These are my qualifications for offering my thoughts and clinical observations on the subject in the last nearly four decades.

ADHD Is A Brain Overstimulation and Toxicity Problem, Not a Psychiatric Disorder
The most disturbing element of the sordid ADHD story is that the self-claimed experts of this and other related neurological issues neither recognize brain toxicity nor lift a finger to address it. They wait for a drug company to come up with a solution (they always profit handsomely from such solutions. Consider the following quote from The New York Times of March 31, 2013:
“Those are astronomical numbers. I’m floored,” said Dr. William Graf, a pediatric neurologist in New Haven and a professor at the Yale School of Medicine. He added, “Mild symptoms are being diagnosed so readily, which goes well beyond the disorder and beyond the zone of ambiguity to pure enhancement of children who are otherwise healthy.”
I do not recall an article published from the Yale School of Medicine supporting the use of robust injectable nutrient therapies for brain disorders, nor vigorous brain detox measures, such as control of gut fermentation, increased bowel permeability (leaky gut state), and restoration of Krebs Cycle bioenergetics in brain cells.
I add that Dr. Graf was responding to the following stats quoted by the Times: “The figures showed that an estimated 6.4 million children ages 4 through 17 had received an A.D.H.D. diagnosis at some point in their lives, a 16 percent increase since 2007 and a 53 percent rise in the past decade. About two-thirds of those with a current diagnosis receive prescriptions for stimulants like Ritalin or Adderall, which can drastically improve the lives of those with A.D.H.D. but can also lead to addiction, anxiety and occasionally psychosis.”
No, these drugs do not cause psychosis only occasionally. Listen to the parents of children who take these drugs, as well as to teenagers and adults with direct experience with these drugs.

From 3 Percent to 16 Percent to 53 Percent
There was a time that the incidence of ADHD was estimated to be 3 percent of children. Note the rise in the incidence quoted above is 53 percent in the past decade. The mental health specialists tell us that they do not know the cause of the disorder and that there are no definitive tests for it. They make the diagnosis only by speaking with patients, parents and teachers, and ruling out other possible causes of neurological disorder. I add that these specialists readily confess they neither know the cause nor have a satisfactory treatment for any of over 400 “diseases” in their speciality. One wonders how anyone becomes a specialist with such credentials.
ADHD is considered to be a “chronic condition.” The C.D.C. Director, Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, likens the rising rates of stimulant prescriptions among children to the overuse of pain medications and antibiotics in adults. It is heartening that someone at the CDC is thinking about brain toxicity.
